Better Late Than Never

I have always suspected my “serious genes” came from my father. Last night over the phone, when I asked him to bring my guitar back home in May, daddy gave the longest whine I’ve ever heard from a man. “Huhhhhhhh…….!!?!?!?!?!?” Hahaha. Now I know the origins of my whiney genes too. ;)

Thanks Dith & Cyn for your valued opinions, I am taking Folklore afterall, as my 7th subject here. Yupz…

Oops…got chided by my roomie for not wearing enough, hence the cold. She’s like a big sis eh…making me realise that our room, unlike many others, gets no sun at all cos it faces the south. =[ Now I have three layers on me. Hee.

Today marks the end of my first week stay in my hostel.

Shao Yuan has been around for more than a century, so many big shots have stayed here in the past (can’t name a single one though =P). But where I am staying, the building was only built in 1981.

When I was back in Singapore, I spoke to Chek, now the president of the Singapore Student Association in Beijing, and he suggested I get accommodation outside of school. In short, he didn’t think favourably about Shao Yuan.

Many things here can certainly be improved, but I am, in fact, adapting well to my stay here. Thank God!

At times when negative thoughts come to mind, it takes conscious effort to block them out and remember what my NTU senior told me, “It just needs getting used to.” Hui Min, also on exchange, stayed here two years back. She preferred staying here than in the other apartment-styled blocks, as she could make more international friends, and participate in more activities.

The dark corridor that leads to my room…

So here, the prettiest pic I could capture of my bed.

Here’s where I type my blog, call home, do QT, have breakfast and erm…try to study.

This is where my water supply comes from. Hot boiling water, from here…

To here… (Yes, I know it’s not the nicest designed flask you’ve ever seen, but there really isn’t a need for a new one yar?)

People who stay here long enough chip in to buy a washing machine. I hand-wash my laundry here.

Forget the Lavatory and Bathroom. The latter bears a striking resemblance to bathrooms in Singapore’s old swimming complexes, just that there’s hot water supply! So so sooooo thankful.

All in all, I like my little nest.

But…it will never be home.

gRacE =)
