Little Pieces of Jigsaw

Sunday morning. Important to be in the body of Christ with fellow believers! Encouraged. =)

Sunday afternoon. A scorching 32 degrees centigrade, and the guy gave me WARM bubble tea! *whineeeee…* 烧 or 冷 just doesn't seem understandable here...say 热、温 or 凉 k...

Sunday night. Study – Psychology of Love

Monday morning. 吴飞教练: “你们在国内也打球吗? 打得不错.....” Ego +++!

Monday afternoon. “You have been short listed for the Overseas Chinese Journalism Scholarship.”

Monday night. Study – SEA culture

Tuesday afternoon. What should you do when an attacker points a gun in your face, or at the back of your head? What if he/she asks you to go on your knees? I kept thinking of the likelihood of these scenarios back home. How likely??? To test our responses, we practised with water guns! When the teacher wasn’t looking, most of us got into water fights! Fun! =D

Erm...got her name wrong last week. It's 全垠贞, and not 金龈贞. =P

Tuesday evening. Very upset with myself over four consecutive losses in ping pong. You know…that kinda feeling when you don’t meet your own standards? Poor flu-ish Mr. Healthy had to face 包青天... Hee…

Tuesday night aka NOW. Study – Chinese Cultural History…yawnz…

Party World 金柜

Junxiong said this karaoke place was really grand, and the sound system simply fantastic. So when Bruce invited me for a singing session last night with the Tsinghua peeps (all from NUS), I thought why not?

I don’t know if Party World occupies the entire building, but there was a reception lobby, and the place was a little like a hotel. While we waited at the lobby till the clock struck twelve, we witnessed an unsightly puking drunkard. Yikes.

Taking the elevator up to the fifth level, we were greeted by many “欢迎光临!!” Wow.

I guess I had my expectations really high after all the welcoming and seeing the elaborate buffet area. =[ The room wasn’t as impressive.

Ta-daaaa! The guys!!! On the right is Franky, from NUS’s chemical engineering.

The buffet was good stuff though…salad, sushi, Taiwan 卤肉饭, dessert, and many different kinds of hot and cold beverages.

Ta-daaaa! The girls!!! Ha…Meet Zhenqi, NUS design student, now in Zhejiang University with Franky. She has a really sweet voice!

The guys’ version of 纸飞机 was hilarious! Oh, for the record, Junxiong’s 曹操 was wow whee!

Taken at 04 30…Kai Qin and I made a move first, while the rest belt it out till 6am. While I was in bed, they headed for The Great Wall at 慕田浴 and went snow skiing in the afternoon! As I’m typing this, they are clubbing away! 青春啊青春...

The sun had risen in Beijing before 5am…

At noon, Jian Kang kindly gave Kai Qin and I wake-up smses. Out through PKU’s 西门, it was my 2nd visit to 老家肉饼. Yummy 肉饼! Roti-prata-like on the outside, tender tasty meat on the inside.

And finally, a disappointing debating competition – Do you approve or disapprove advertisements featuring attractive female models?

Followed by ping-pong! My first game in the entire week! Sigh…

HAPPY...shalala... =D

Addicted to 温岚's 祝我生日快乐...

Everyone in CS got our first division choice, and so I'm in PPC (Public & Promotional Comm). Feeling-less, but I can't imagine otherwise...thank God! My clique of 6 is spread over the 4 divisions...Dith and Kamling in EBM (Electronic Broadcast Media), SK in Journalism, Cyn in CR (Comm Research), and Peiting with me in PPC! Looking back, I still remember the first day in Year 1 when we queued for our matriculation card...ah...time...fliessss...

I luvvv rainy nights. The sun may be hidden this morning, but the weather is fantastic... =D

Last night, I attended my last Southeast Asian Culture lecture. As of now, I believe my last paper (Folk Lore) is on 19th June. My days in PKU are numbered, and I really can't bear to leave... =(

I have lost count of the number of times I''ve fallen sick here. Why oh why... I love Lemsip! ;)

I love my family!!! Thanks to Aunty Agnes, Aunty Ruby and Aunty Merin for keeping in touch! Check out what Uncle Kok Beng sent me on The Da Vinci Code. Called Aunty Diana, Aunty Mary, Aunty June and Uncle Alson. Wheeee!

"so blessed I can't contain it!"

金石滩 + eXtrAss…

The sky was gloomy on Sunday when we headed to 金石滩. The guide suggested that we go out to sea by a speedboat on our first stop just in case it rains later in the day. So off mama and I went, 60rmb per person, out to sea, and supposedly to an island to see dolphins and pick up starfish (boo, I oppose to that though).

Honestly, because of the sound from the engine and the driver’s heavy accent, I could make out less than 10% of what was said. There was a part out at sea where we met with huge terrifying waves. Mama prayed out loud and I too was praying in my heart! Somehow I figured the driver was asking if we wanted to go ahead, brave the waves and head for the island, but we were shouting, “不去!不去!” As he steered the wheel and we did a turn back, I heard the engine die. *gasp!* The driver mumbled something again and then bent down and…

Out from the sea, he drew up rolls of seaweed for us! Then, a motorboat filled with seaweed passed by, and our driver asked for more! Coooool… ;)

Mama, the proud owner of fresh seaweed! =P

This auntie from 哈尔滨 was amazing. She not only held on tightly to mama on the boat, she lifted mama’s legs so that they didn’t get wet from the seawater that drained in. On shore, she even helped us roll the seaweed and demanded a plastic bag from her husband to store our seaweed. =)

Since we were not warned about the waves, and we didn’t make it to the island, the Chinese tourists kicked up a fuss with the guide, demanding compensation. Hmm…we each got 20rmb back, but it was quite an unpleasant incident.

The day continued to be eventful! We did a little rock-climbing in 金石园. These rocks were underwater 600 million years ago…

You know how when you join tour groups, you are always brought to some manufacturing or so-called wholesale place to purchase local products? We went to see 黄龙玉 and I bought sotong… =P

Visited a wax museum (pity photography wasn’t allowed, we saw a thin and young LKY!), rock museum and Chairman Mao’s badge collection museum.

Have I ever mentioned how much my dad loves flowers? Haha… ;)

We played golf for the first time…

And did some live firing…

This pic reminds me of some terrorist training. Mind you, I was a better shooter than my 老爸! =P

Sigh sigh sigh… 12-hour train ride back to Beijing on the HARD SEAT. I have to admit…mama was zai. Very zai.

With Daddy and Aunty Li Hua’s departure, mama’s role as a Beijing guide has officially ended. Pheeeew! She is pretty proud of herself you know… ;)
I, on the other hand, am beginning to feel the pre-examination stress and anxiety. Bit by bit…

eXtrAssss

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan was at PKU today! Argh, missed that chance to catch him in person! =(

Just thinking about what my Folk Lore teacher casually said. Due to the one-child policy in China, in the future, kids will no longer know who is 舅舅、伯伯、叔叔、婶婶、姑姑、阿姨……

Tongues wag wag wag…Red lights flash flash flash…

I experienced the most challenging warm-up ever at Self Defence today! Our relief teacher, a trained wushu instructor, led us first in the normal head rotation exercise. Then, he made us lie on the mat and stretch every single muscle on our legs. As he read from the instruction sheet my teacher handed him, we were instructed to run in rounds, hop, kick and punch. All for warm-up!

Thankfully, he wasn’t as strict as my teacher during lesson itself. Instead of demonstrating some moves, he assumed that we had learnt them, and left us to try out on our own. I’ve never seen my self-defence class laugh so much at each other’s antics. It was really a lot of fun!

This is my Korean partner, who clicks really well with me. 金龈贞…

She’s absolutely into beauty…maybe a lot of Korean girls are? I remember how she would complain that certain exercises make her calves big so she refused to do them. Then today as I was ooooing and ahhhhing my way through one of the stretching exercises, she encouraged me to do that ten minutes a day for a shapely figure. =O Haha…

大连 City Tour

I need more sleeeeeep!

In the comfy hard berth...

Upon our arrival, we were pestered by many "people" (who exactly are they?!) who identified us as tourists and kept asking if we needed transport, hotel stays and tour guides. Thumbs down...

That ugly incident aside, Dalian was charming!

If I could bring anything back from Dalian, I would ta-pao AIR. Almost entirely surrounded by sea, China's most liveable city greeted us with a light shower and cool breeze. I never truly noticed the extent of air pollution in Beijing until I breeeeeathed in Dalian. Wow. On the roads, there were few impatient drivers and less honking from vehicles. Along the roads, you hardly see any illegal vendors and Dalian has much greenery to boast of. Nice!

The iconic symbol of the city appeared to be a white-and-red soccer ball. At 星海广场 ...

I had fun with these bronze statues!

Encircling 星海广场 were sculptures of athletes. Pity I didn’t get a shot of the high-jumper…Can you tell which sport this is?

Majesty castle…but I have yet to find out its purpose... ;)

Awww…graceful…

Dalian has its own 金沙滩 and 银沙滩 as well, but they really do not match up to the ones we have seen in 青岛 .

Lunch…Supposedly 过桥米线, but nothing beats the original in 云南!

In 劳动公园, many many artistic kids were putting their talents to practice. Reminded me of a primary school trip to Sungei Buloh…

Traces of Sino-Japan relations in the park

There…another soccer ball…

Ferris wheel!

A HUGE underground mall, near the train station… I suffered from shopping overdose...My legs almost gave way… Daddy was unexpectedly good at this entire shopping thingy…I was oh-so-impressed!

Somehow this 麻辣烫 didn’t quite turn out as I had expected… =S

At 友好广场, I was determined to capture this soccer ball when it was fully lit. Couple of failed attempts…

Yeah! Finally, in three shades: Red, Green and Yellow! =)

Back to the hotel for a good night’s rest…zzzzz…
