“Ai Swee Mai Mia”

I learnt spinsss in ping-pong class today! =)

For as long as I’ve been here, I have always wanted to get my eyebrows trimmed. Ok guys, you may stop reading this post. =P

After ping-pong class, I chanced upon a beauty parlour within school. 10rmb for eyebrow trimming service. Ah…an attractive cost to oversee any potential “risk”. I walked in, and was pleased when the beautician courteously offered both plucking and shaving services at the same cost.

Xiao Qian got really excited when she found out that I was from Singapore. “你会说汉语?!” Aha…It so happened that a good friend of hers got married to a Singapore man who spoke mostly (if not only) English.

She really put me at ease, and I was satisfied with the result. =)

That wasn’t it.

After a little persuasion, and contemplation on my part, I gave Xiao Qian the liberty to work on my nose for the next half an hour. “Blackhead removal”, she said, “at a trial price of 20rmb.”

Why not, I thought, since I have no intentions of purchasing Biore Pore Packs here, and it’s gonna be a FIRST time experience. ;)

Before the actual procedure, I asked an apparently silly question. “Why does one have to remove blackheads anyway?” Xiao Qian’s first answer was that it was for beauty (oh grace, duh!), and then she talked about dust, sebum, clots and pores breathing.

Then I asked, “Will it hurt?”

I learnt that an answer to such a question is highly subjective. People really do have different pain tolerance levels. Boohoooo…!

As she pressed this metal stick with a small ring time and again against my nose, tears uncontrollably rolled down my cheeks. I even managed a “需要这么用力吗?” Xiao Qian repeated more than thrice, “为了身体健康!” For health sake?!

At the end of the gruelling process, I resembled Rudolf.

Sobz…

gRacE ;)
