40 DOP Session 5
Ministry: You were Shaped for Serving God
In order to serve the needs of others as Christ does,
1. Start seeing the needs of people around you.
Have you been too busy? Slow down!
Being in a hurry is the death of kindness.
I need God to give me spiritual radar.
2. Sympathise with people’s pain.
Give up our prejudices and stop making assumptions about others.
I need to care about people!
3. Seize the moment and meet the need.
Love is often inconvenient.
Interruptions are opportunities to serve.
What often seems like chance is a God-engineered encounter.
I need to seize the moment!
4. Spend whatever it takes.
There is always a cost to kindness and service.
I need to expect nothing in return.
Korean Fair @ PKU
Jing Jing (now known as Christina…hee…) arranged to meet me at 0920 to attend the Korean Fair that begins at 0930. What a torrrrture to wake up early…!!!
Have you ever seen the audience go up on stage to watch a performance?

The fair promised 30kg of glutinous rice and delicious food, but we were so early, there was only tea sampling and seaweed with chilli. Boo.

However, we did get something in return for being one of the first.
Christina was 1st in line to try on the traditional Korean costume.

And I was 2nd!

Followed by Christina’s Mongolian roommate, Aruna.

I’m thankful we were the first 3 to try on the brand new costume, cos there was only ONE to go around (if you haven’t already noticed), and by the time we were done, there were at least 20 others in the queue.
There were 2 game stalls at the fair. One required you to kick the chateck at least 20 times for a prize. Chateck? Korea?? Of course I skipped that. The other game was much easier, to say the least. Ha. Throw 3 balloon sticks into bins at a distance.
*Clap clap!* I got one stick in, and won this tiny Korean hp chain. Ah…

Ironically, I only saw 2 Koreans at the fair, and they happened to be twins! I have been wondering why the “same guy” who totally ignores me in class becomes really friendly when he meets me near my hostel. Turned out, bespectacled Cui Long is the elder brother who knows me, and his younger bro has no idea who I am. Cool. Really.

Movie Screening: 大红灯笼高高挂

I walked out of the LT with a very heavy heart after the screening.
In the ballet version that mama and Watson also caught, the female lead was forced to become the 3rd mistress of a rich man. She then met her childhood sweetheart, and began an affair with him. The 2nd mistress divulged her secret, and in the end, the lead, her lover and the 2nd mistress were all whipped to death.
In today’s movie, Gong Li played the female lead, and she became the 4th mistress of a rich man. She had no childhood sweetheart, but grew to like the rich man’s son, who was closer to her age. Along her life in the mansion, she indirectly caused the death of her servant girl and the 3rd mistress. Overwhelmed with guilt and hopelessness, she lost her mind.
Come to think of it, I guess the ballet was a portrayal from the 3rd mistress' angle, while the movie did it from the 4th.
Ohhhhhh well. Catch the show if you can. Haiz…沉重......
