This post isn’t entirely about shopping, but the past two nights have been spent at The Silk Street, and tonight at 西单. I think I can safely say I have had enough. Hmm…but the aunties didn’t think so… ;)
This morning, mama and the aunties headed to The Summer Palace. Of the pics taken, I thought this HAD to be posted. Hee.

After church, we headed for the Temple of Heaven, better known as 天坛 , on the southern part of Beijing. It was my 2nd visit ever since primary-something or secondary-something (tsk…memory and age…sigh… =P).

Check out the pretty carnations from me! Ha…

天坛 is not just known for the altars for prayers, there were trees such as cypresses and juniper aged 500 to more than 800 years old!

We blindly followed the crowd and ended up walking around one of the 坛s.

Behind us, the renowned Echo Wall (回音墙). I think if you stand at the north of the wall and speak, someone at the south will hear you clearly. The entire circular wall has been barricaded, and it’s easily understandable after seeing name engravings on some of the tiles.

There…My lovely aunties and me!

Mama tried convincing the aunties that a certain emperor had built some underground chamber beneath this area. I thought she confused it with one of the tombs?

Behind us is the Altar for Prayers for Harvest

While I was taking this picture…

Mama found a comfy shaded spot to check out her nails… ;)

On our way out, there was a sheltered passageway where many locals were just having a relaxing Sunday afternoon. A number of old people were playing traditional instruments, those in their 40s and 50s played cards, and one particular woman showed off her opera skills. For a moment, it reminded me of Chengdu, and hectic stressful polluted Beijing faded away…

We then proceeded to the famous 红桥市场 where mama happily purchased pearl & silk cream for her friend, and tea for my uncle. Booooo…not MY kind of shopping place.

Once again, I wasn’t thinking of pictures when shopping at 西单. The ladies each got a manicure where the quoted price was 10rmb, and when they were done, it became 90rmb each! 10rmb for basic…30rmb for basic + colour…60rmb for basic + colour + protection…blah blah blah… I wasn’t there to witness the episode, but it couldn’t have been pleasant. I think they settled for 80rmb each in the end.

Dinner was at 9pm!!! And finally…my treat! Haha..so proud of myself! =P

Thank God for His abundant provision.
Thank God for two fantabulous taxi drivers.
gRacE =)
